Natural materials such as stones and shells are becoming popular engraving items. While they're often darkly-colored on the outside, engraving them results in a near-white color that produces a wonderful contrast.
Here we'll walk you through the steps to create a customized rock oil candle, which makes an excellent (and very unique!) gift item for customers - or yourself! Additionally, since you can refill the oil supply, this candle will last a lifetime.
We used a 50-watt Helix with the following settings: 40% speed, 100% power.
Begin by measuring your rock candle - ours was roughly 4.5 inches in diameter. Since no two rock candles will be exactly the same, you'll need to measure and adjust your artwork accordingly.
Depending on the size of your candle, you may need to make the design bigger or smaller for an ideal finished product.
Because the candles are created from agate slices, they will not be perfectly round. Draw a vector circle around your design and run ONLY that job with the red dot pointer on and the lid open.
Once you are satisfied with the placement of the artwork, remove the vector circle and send the engraving job to the laser. When complete, it will look similar to the image to your right.
When you've finished your engraving, pour the lamp oil into the candle and insert the wick that is included with the kit. Let the wick soak for a few minutes and the candle is ready to light!
We'll send you a brochure, as well as engraved and cut samples created with the laser.
